And it’s a resounding Thank You.
For those that don’t know, Maggie’s is a charity that provide free support to anyone with cancer, and their families. They aim to help people take back control when cancer turns life upside down. For us, that support has been varied and invaluable.
There are Maggie’s centres up and down the country, and even across the world, but I’m very fortunate that there has been a centre at The Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton, where I am being treated.
The centre itself is wonderful and I spend a lot of time there. It’s a non-clinical environment and I have been there most weeks between treatments, escaping the hospital, relaxing on the sofas or in the beautiful garden space with a coffee. It’s a calm, friendly and uplifting space. Mum and I often meet there between my treatments for lunch and their support workers have always been on hand to check in on me, talk to and offer support.
It’s also where I have been having therapy, both individual and in group sessions. David and I have attended workshops on how to help us navigate the diagnosis as parents and it is a place that both David and Charlotte, and friends and family, can access support whenever they need it. They also provide financial advice and guidance, and even helped me get my Disabled Parking Badge and benefits I’m entitled to, which has eased the financial burden of not being able to work. Their support really has been incredible.
So, with this in mind, I wanted to try and raise some money for Maggie’s. It costs £3,000 a day to run one Maggie’s centre. Pesky tumours mean I’m limited with the physical challenges I can take on and so have decided to run a raffle.
I’ve managed to secure a whole heap of prizes, some of which are below. More will be announced over the coming weeks!
– A Fitbit Charge 6
– £100 voucher for Jose Pizarro at The Swan Inn
– Katherine Daniels Facial Products
– 2 x Freddies Flowers deliveries
– 4 x tickets to a Picture House cinema
– Honest Burgers £40 voucher
– The Present Tree £40 voucher
– 2 x tickets to Olympic Studios Barnes
– Chalkstream Foods £30 voucher
– Denbies Wine Tour voucher
– Northumberland Cheese Company £10 voucher
– Greggs £10 voucher
I’m launching the raffle today, and we will be making the draw, at random, on 8th November. Tickets are £2 each and all proceeds will go directly to the Maggie’s Centre at the Royal Marsden, helping them to continue to offer the support that we have been fortunate enough to receive, to other families in this horrible situation.
My fundraising page is here. Just donate through here and I’ll enter you in to the raffle and confirm your numbers – https://www.justgiving.com/page/aliceisrunningaraffle?newPage=true#sharePage
Thanks so much for your support. Any donation you’re able to give will go to directly support Maggie’s and you’ll be in with a chance of winning a prize. I do also realise how tough times are at the moment so really do appreciate anything you’re able to donate, however small.
Also a massive thank you and shout out to all the friends, family and businesses that have donated prizes. Without you, there would be no raffle.
Please make sure you put your contact details in to the Just Giving page so that I can contact you if you win a prize!
