The Wonder Of Science

Advances in medical science are something we’re all hoping for. And last night I experienced one. Not a change that’s going to hit the headlines for how many lives it can save, but one that, for me, looks to have changed mine for the better.

A new anti-sickness medication agreed for use with my chemo combination.

Yesterday was my 30th round of chemo, my 22nd on this particular combination. For the previous 21 rounds, I’ve spent the night being pretty sick. My body seemingly trying to rid itself of the poison. It’s a miserable experience, but a necessary one. It’s always the lowest ebb of the cycle. Charlotte will often pop in to check I’m ok and give me a cuddle, but it’s also the time I can be heard muttering about whether I can keep going.

But last night, after agreeing to try the new medication, I wasn’t sick. Not even nauseous.

A SMALL BLOODY MIRACLE!

Of course we want the big cure. I’d love nothing more than to be told they’ve found a way to rid me of this cancer. But let’s not forget there are smaller wins we don’t hear about, and that the research being done is also helping to support patients like me through these gruelling treatments.

So for now, I’m going to marvel at this win. At the men and women with brains far cleverer than mine, who can spot these possibilities, develop them, and then push them through into licensed protocols. Thank you to them for making my night significantly more bearable. Here’s hoping it keeps doing the same for round 31 onwards!
